The track “Hinoki Wood,” globally recognized as the “Chill Guy Theme” due to its viral meme status, is part of the “Romantic Piano” album, which comprises eleven other pieces.
This entirely instrumental album features minimal lyrics, a choice the artist explained in an interview.
In her conversation with The Line of Best Fit, Gia Margaret stated: “Writing instrumental music, in general, is a process that brings me more joy than composing songs with lyrics.”
Her work gained sudden recognition among social media users thanks to a simple internet joke.
Chill Guy
“Chill Guy” is considered a piece of digital art and an internet meme first posted by artist Phillip Banks on Twitter in 2023.
This year coincided with the release of the “Romantic Piano” album, and the selection of the track we all know was no coincidence.
The meme depicts a dog wearing a gray sweater, blue jeans, and red sneakers, exuding a “chill” expression through a slight smile, with hands in pockets.
Gia Margaret’s melody was likely chosen due to its calm, lo-fi, and introspective atmosphere, perfectly matching the relaxed and confident energy of the character.
The instrumental piece features a gentle piano melody, soft ambient tones, and a relaxed ambiance, making it ideal for a meme conveying a laid-back attitude.
Additionally, the slow rhythm and melancholic yet soothing sound of the melody create an amusing contrast with the more ironic and playful nature of the meme, enhancing its charm even further.
