The eleventh edition of the Rockstadt Extreme Fest (REF) promises to be even more legendary than last year’s!
In 2024, we enjoyed bands like Kreator, Dragonforce, Amon Amarth, Eluveitie, and Dimmu Borgir, but it seems that this year the audience won’t be disappointed either.
Today, we’ll explore some intriguing names set to take the stage at REF.
Gojira
Last year, they delivered an unforgettable performance as part of the Olympic Games opening ceremony.
This year, Gojira will appear in Râșnov in a show that promises to be legendary.
With a career spanning over two decades, the band has redefined modern metal music.
Their sound is unique and hard to replicate, and their powerful messages set them apart from many other bands.
They have inspired both artists and fans who have remained loyal to the band’s values.
Emperor
Emperor is considered one of the most important bands in black metal history.
They were pioneers of symphonic black metal, a subgenre that evolved and influenced numerous other bands like Dimmu Borgir and Cradle of Filth.
“In the Nightside Eclipse” (1994) is their debut album and one of the most significant albums in the genre’s history.
Although the band was associated with the Norwegian black metal scene, which sometimes included satanic or anti-Christian elements, their messages are more philosophical and introspective rather than strictly anti-religious.
Despite releasing only four studio albums, their impact on the music scene is immense.
Lord Of The Lost
Lord Of The Lost first took the stage in Romania in 2022, opening for Iron Maiden at Romexpo.
They are known for combining elements of gothic, industrial, glam, and metal, creating a unique musical identity.
They represented Germany at Eurovision in 2023 with the song “Blood & Glitter” from the album of the same name.
“Blood & Glitter” attracted international attention with its explosive energy and message about self-acceptance.
They are an example of a band that refuses to be confined to a single genre, preferring to explore new artistic directions.
Asphyx
Asphyx is known for old-school death metal combined with strong doom metal influences.
“The Rack” (1991) is their debut album, considered a classic of European death metal.
Many of the band’s songs are inspired by historical conflicts, especially World War II.
The central theme of their lyrics reflects the brutality of life and the inevitability of death.
Charlotte Wessels
After parting ways with the band Delain, Charlotte focused her attention on solo projects.
She has released two remarkable albums in the “Tales From Six Feet Under” series, recorded in her personal studio.
Her style combines elements of symphonic metal and gothic metal.
Her lyrics are introspective and poetic, addressing themes such as love, loss, social inequality, and inner strength.
Katatonia
Originating from Stockholm, Sweden, the band has evolved over time from a doom-death metal style to a more refined sound.
They are considered one of the most influential bands in the atmospheric metal scene.
They are renowned for themes that often address emotional suffering and alienation.
Their lyrics explore the human condition, loneliness, and introspection.
Jonas Renkse’s voice is key to the emotional impact of the band’s music, transitioning from calm to dramatic.
Static-X
The band was founded by the late Wayne Static, an emblematic figure of the genre, known for his charismatic stage presence and distinctive hairstyle.
Static-X became one of the most representative bands in the industrial and nu-metal scene of the 2000s.
Their musical style is dubbed “evil disco,” a combination of groove metal and industrial with techno influences.
“Wisconsin Death Trip” (1999) is their debut and most popular album.
The sound of this material is defined by repetitive metal riffs, electronic sequences, and an aggressive atmosphere.
This was a list of just a few bands that will delight us on the Râșnov stage this year. The complete list of bands coming to Rockstadt this year can be found here.
