Over the past decade, the festival has become a reference point for fans of extreme genres across Europe, hosting major international metal acts such as Gojira, Lamb of God, Kreator, Amon Amarth, and Behemoth.

2015 – Shaping Its Identity

In 2015, Rockstadt Extreme Fest was in its third year, establishing itself as a festival dedicated exclusively to extreme music.

The event took place from August 12 to 15 at the well-known location at the foot of Râșnov Fortress.

Headliners included Moonspell, Biohazard, and At The Gates, delivering electrifying performances.

The festival was noted for its intimate atmosphere, attracting a loyal and passionate audience.

Memorable moments from that edition featured Behemoth’s explosive concert, complete with visual and pyrotechnic effects, and the raw power of Kataklysm.

2025 – A World-Class Production

A decade later, Rockstadt Extreme Fest 2025 has grown into a large-scale event drawing tens of thousands of fans worldwide.

The 2024 edition attracted approximately 40,000 attendees.

The confirmed lineup for 2025 includes bands that performed a decade ago, such as Brujeria, Dirty Shirt, Kataklysm, and Harakiri for the Sky.

Additionally, the festival emphasizes diversifying the experience with multiple stages and expanded facilities for attendees.

Compared to 2015, the festival has significantly increased in size, both in the number of bands and infrastructure.

Rockstadt now offers two camping areas for tents and RVs, a varied food court, and relaxation zones, setting higher standards for a metal festival in Eastern Europe.

From Underground to the Mainstream of European Metal

The evolution of Rockstadt Extreme Fest over the past decade reflects the rise of the metal scene in Romania and the festival’s growing international appeal.

While the 2015 event was considered an underground gem, by 2025, it has become a top-tier festival comparable to major European events like Wacken Open Air or Hellfest.

The 2015 edition was characterized by an intimate atmosphere and a dedicated audience, whereas 2025 presents a much larger event with impressive production and world-class bands.

Despite this growth, REF remains true to its roots, maintaining a lineup focused on extreme music and providing fans with an authentic experience.

In just a decade, Rockstadt Extreme Fest has transformed from a promising festival into a pillar of the European metal scene, becoming a must-attend event for any fan of the genre.
